The vendor is required to provide ASL english interpreting services for include:
- Interpreting service requirements
1. Accurate interpretation of complex and highly specialized technical language across various polytechnic programs, including (but not limited to):
• Health sciences
• Engineering
• Aviation
• Computing
• Skilled trades
2. Interpreting services may be required in a range of settings across agency learning environments, including (but not limited to):
• Traditional classrooms
• Online and hybrid classes
• Labs and shops
• Field-based and applied learning environments (e.g., outdoor training)
• 1:1 academic appointment
• Meetings, workshops, and other student-related activities
3. Interpreting services are also used to support internal and externally facing events and institute activities, which may be filmed or recorded for agency use.
4. The qualified supplier will:
• Be assigned specific work directly by accessibility services or other agency departments.
• Receive student schedules from accessibility services, and additional schedules provided by other departments, and take over coordination with students and employees for timing and details.
• Be responsible for interpreter assignment and delivery
• Provide detailed logs of hours and accurate, timely invoicing
• Be available for both short-term and long-term assignments
• Ensure interpreters are qualified and prepared for highly technical and applied language environments
• Provide in-person (on campus) invigilation services at any of agency five campuses, as well as other locations in the lower mainland as required.
- Volume of services
• The volume of services varies by term, with an average of 1–5 students requiring services per term.
• Class schedules may range from full-time (5 days per week) to as little as one class per week.
• Once a student enrolls and identifies a need, services must begin promptly to fulfill agency legal duty to accommodate.
• Annual institute events requiring asl interpreting include: June convocation, fall big info, five president’s town halls, and other signature events.
• Shifts for these types of events typically range from 4 to 8 hours.
• Last fiscal year, agency required approximately 3000 hours of interpreting and related preparation time.
