The Vendor is required to provide American Sign Language Services to the department.
- The American Sign Language Instruction services shall be provided between the hours of 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, excluding State observed holidays. American Sign Language Interpreting shall be provided Monday through Sunday (sevenday week), twenty-four (24) hours per day, on an as-needed basis.
- Provide American Sign Language instruction services, Tuesday and Thursdays, for two (2) hours during regular business hours (2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.) as mutually agreed upon between Contractor and the department Contract Manager.
- Provide all equipment, materials, supplies, personnel, transportation, licenses, certifications, and permits necessary to provide American Sign Language Instruction and American Sign Language Interpreting Services on an as-needed basis.
- Basic American Sign Language Instruction
• Teach staff ability to communicate with the deaf and hard of hearing patients.
• Must be able to identify language requirements of staff in current setting.
• Provide and lead staff in practice of sign language vocabulary, basic and specialized.
• Demonstrate and engage in practice for signing of the alphabet and numbers.
• Teach conversational sign language for community and hospital conversation.
• Facilitate staffs’ ability to recognize non-verbal communication skills and assist staff in becoming visually astute when communicating with a deaf population, i.e., body language and expressive techniques.
• Provide in-service instruction in American Sign Language to Support Service Assistants (Interpreter) and Bi-lingual staff currently employed at department.
• Provide American Sign Language instruction to patients.
- Intermediate American Sign Language Instruction
• Enhance staff’s proficiency using sign language to communicate with the deaf.
• Enhance staff’s confidence in using conversational sign language with deaf using individual coaching, if needed.
• Aid staff in learning more advanced terms needed to facilitate staff’s knowledge in medical and legal signing skills.
• Continue to teach more awareness of the deaf culture.
- Advanced American Sign Language Instruction
• Enhance staff’s proficiency using sign language to communicate at an advanced level.
• Aid staff to learn more advanced terms related to medical and legal signing skills.
• Facilitate staff to be aware of latest trends and new developments in American Sign Language.
- Provide Video Remote Interpreting Services for department on an “as needed” basis.
- A two (2) hour minimum will be required for all on-site interpretation service calls. There will be no extra fees for canceling services within a 24-hour period. The Contractor may bill up to a two (2) hour minimum or 50% of the assigned hours (whichever is greater) of the first day of the assignment, if the cancellation notice of services is less than twentyfour (24) hours prior to the assignment date.
- Services will be performed by professional, experienced interpreters who possess proficiency, demonstrated accuracy, and fluency in the language required.
