• A “certified spoken language interpreter” is a professional, who can provide qualified spoken language interpretation and who has professional accreditation.

- Interpretation for signed languages
• “Qualified sign language interpreter” is an individual who interprets signed communication into spoken language and vice versa, ensuring accurate and impartial translation of both content and context.
• Qualified sign language interpretation, unless requested differently by department.

• Primary signed language that is expected for signed interpretation services is American Sign Language.
- Simultaneous event interpretation
1. Interpreters
• Provide one (1) interpreter at each event up to 2 hours and two (2) interpreters at each event over 2 hours.
o In the event that an assigned interpreter is unable to attend and perform the requested services (e.g., due to illness), the contractor will assign a new interpreter as soon as possible and send the new interpreter’s contact information to department event staff and department contract manager.
• Interpreters must have the ability to provide sight interpreting, where the interpreter provides an oral rendition of written material.
• Interpreters shall provide sight interpreting services during the event.
• Interpreters must have the ability to provide consecutive interpreting, where the interpreter renders a speaker’s message into another language when the speaker pauses.
