The Vendor is required to provide registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) to support student health services across the district.
- Daily responsibilities include monitoring the health and wellness of students, administering medications, conducting wellness checks, and responding to a variety of health-related needs that may arise throughout the school day.
- Nurses are also expected to maintain accurate and timely health records and monitor student well-being during any incidents involving restraint, seclusion, or other health-related interventions.
- Registered nurses must be knowledgeable in administering medications and treatments, delivering age appropriate nursing care, and implementing appropriate follow-up in response to actual or potential health concerns.
- RNs must be prepared to respond to emergency health or safety situations, support the daily health operations of a school setting, and collaborate with building administrators and school based teams in the course of fulfilling their duties.
- Nurses may also be expected to monitor student well-being during incidents involving restraint and seclusion while ensuring compliance with applicable safety and documentation requirements.
- RNs are clinically supervised by the school nursing supervisor for all nursing-related responsibilities, while building administrators provide supervision related to school operations.
- Nursing delegation practices within schools follow state guidelines.
- Licensed practical nurses (“LPNs”) may be assigned to support students through one-to-one or small group nursing assignments and may be required to provide services in school settings, during transportation (e.g., bus runs), field trips, community-based activities, and other off-site programming. LPNs must be able to manage a range of medical conditions, including high-acuity medical needs such as tracheostomy care, ventilator support, g-tube care, seizure management, diabetes management, and other specialized nursing supports.
- There are no exceptions for servicing students with high-acuity medical needs.
- LPNs must be comfortable working independently while implementing established care plans and collaborating with supervising nurses and district staff as needed.
- LPNs are supervised by the assigned school nurse(s) within the building, with additional support and guidance from building administrators and certified staff related to classroom and school-based operations.
