The Vendor is required to provide a solution and implementation provider that will provide implementation services as well as overall solution design.
- Provide an IT solution delivery project to address the impending decommissioning of the banner operational data store (ODS) which is part of city banner – university ERP and student information system.
- The ODS Historical Data Migration Project aims to develop a sustainable and scalable repository for legacy data from ODS, Banner, and future decommissioned systems.
- The solution should enable seamless query execution across the data lake and the existing azure synapse data warehouse, potentially leveraging a lake house architecture.
- The high-level requirements include a storage area for 4-6 TB of legacy/historical data, the capability to run SQL queries against this data with reasonable latency, and the ability to access data from the Azure Synapse data warehouse in the same query.
- The solution should provide analytic sandboxes for users/units to store their own data and run queries against multiple data sources, be scalable to add additional data in the future, and secure different data subjects and workspace areas.
- Non-functional requirements include maintaining current access rights and privileges to the data, ensuring the privacy of HR and student financial and personal data, and the ability to run queries against data stored in the new solution and other data sources like the data warehouse.
- The script is use-case based, designed to demonstrate how the solution can handle each scenario. The use cases are:
1. Setup and data storage – Demonstrate how the solution would be setup in Azure and show some sample files (CSV, DB table exports etc.) stored in the solution. Demonstration of how the files are stored and what they look like at rest (with encryption).
2. Security and Access – Demonstrate accessing files in the solution and show how they can be secured from others accessing the solution.
3. Analytic Sandboxes – Show how a user workspace would be created and how they would use it. Demonstrate a user storing data separate from other data.
4. Query and Interoperability – Show the ability to run SQL queries against data stored in the solution.
5. Query and Interoperability – Show the capability of running the same query against data in the solution and data in the analytic Sandboxes. Run a similar query against data in the solution and data stored in a separate solution (MS-SQL Server, Synapse etc.).
6. Scalability – Show the scalability of the solution by how to increase the disk space, add a new storage partition and create (or remove) analytic Sandboxes.
7. Maintenance and manageability – Show how we would maintain the solution, monitor for alerts and common issues we might experience.
8. Advanced features – Demonstrate some of the advanced features that might be included with the solution (example: coding capabilities, additional security features, reporting capabilities).
9. Azure – Demonstrate how the solution fits into the Azure environment and what changes we would have to do to our Azure environment to install the solution.
10. PowerBI Compatibility – Demonstrate a Power BI report written against data in the solution.
11. Project Plan – Provide a walkthrough of the project plan, including high-level milestones (assuming an August start date).
