The Vendor is required to provide a public outreach and communication plan (OCP) to support the Venice local coastal program (LCP) update.
- Requirement:
1. Stakeholder identification:
• Determine who needs to be informed, including local residents, businesses, and community leaders, elected officials, neighborhood groups, local advocacy organizations, and environmental groups.
2. Develop communication channels:
• Social media: Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, or other social media platforms to share news and engage with the public.
• Print media: local newspapers, trade publications, and community publications.
• Public meetings: in-person events to present plans, conduct workshops, answer questions, and gather feedback.
• Community forums: online or in-person discussions to facilitate open dialogue.
3. Tailor messaging:
• Clarity: use easy-to-understand language and visuals to explain complex policies and issues. Where applicable, provide materials in multiple languages to meet the needs of the community.
• Transparency: be upfront about potential impacts, project timelines, and address concerns openly.
• Positive framing: highlight the benefits of the LCP updates for the community.
4. Active listening and feedback collection:
• Surveys: gather public opinion through online or paper surveys.
• Comment cards: provide opportunities for written feedback at events.
• Focus groups: facilitate in-depth discussions with targeted groups, ensure discussion remains respectful and solutions oriented.
5. Community engagement strategies:
• Partnerships with local organizations: collaborate with community groups to disseminate information and facilitate engagement.
• Educational outreach: provide presentations and workshops to inform specific groups about coastal act requirements, coastal commission involvement, the division of responsibilities within different government agencies, and LCP implementation.
